Hang your quilt in 4 simple steps
Have you ever wondered how to hang a large quilt? Here are my 4 simple steps to hang your quilt with a dowel and the hanging sleeve option.
What you’ll need.
Wooden dowel*
Saw and sand paper
Hammer
1 or 2 nails
Tape measure
*I use 12mm pine dowels from Builder Depot. These are available in most hardware stores, you can either purchase the full length or ask a member of staff if they can cut it to size for you. For these instructions I cover cutting the dowel yourself.
Measure and cut the dowel.
Measure the width of your quilt to determine how long you need the dowel to be. Mark it with a pencil, saw, and sand down any rough edges.
Prepare the quilt for display.
Lightly press your quilt to smooth out any large creases. If using a steam setting I’d recommend using deionised water. You may also want to use a lint roller to remove any dust. Thread the dowel through the hanging sleeve.
Prepare your wall fixture.
Make a mark where you would like to hang the quilt. For a medium quilt one nail may be sufficient, if using two nails you can use a spirit level to make sure they are level. Hammer the nail or nails into place.
Hang your quilt, stand back, and admire!
The great thing about quilt wall hangings is that they are super easy to take down to reposition, clean, or use as a throw blanket. For instructions on how to care for your quilt visit the Quilt Care page.
